Please don't hesitate to contact us for more information about the undergraduate programme in Psychiatry for 4th Year Medicals Core Curriculum in Psychiatry for fourth year medical students and Trainee Interns. Psychiatry occupies a major part of the medical curriculum for three major reasons:

  • The general approach of psychiatry is that it stresses the broad integration of the person: physical, mental and socio-cultural determinants – this is important in all areas of medical practice.
  • Therapeutic skills learned in psychiatry are important for all doctors. Examples of these are the ability to form a good relationship with a patient, to impart distressing news and to assess a mental state.
  • Doctors working in all branches of medicine commonly see psychiatric problems. Primary care practitioners see the majority of people with mental disorders.

This curriculum covers three broad areas – attitude, knowledge and skills.
