Established as the Centre for Minimally Invasive Surgery at the beginning of
the laparoscopic "revolution" in the Department of Surgery, Auckland Hospital.
1996
Relocated to Green Lane Hospital to allow expansion. Renamed Surgical Skills
Training Centre (SSTC).
1998
Introduction of GP courses in "minor surgery".
2000
Introduction of Auckland
Healthcare Procedural Skills Courses for first year House Officers and the RACS
initiated Basic Surgical Skills courses for basic surgical trainees.
2002
Introduction of RANZCOG initiated basic surgical skills for O&G Trainees.
2003
SSTC and the Department of Anaesthesiology form the Postgraduate Training Centre.
2004
Rebuilding work underway to completely rebuild Gonzaga hall to house the Postgraduate
Training Centre.
2005
The rebuilding was completed and the SSTC and the Department of Anaesthesiology
moved into the Postgraduate Training Centre in early 2005.
The centre was renamed the Advanced Clinical Skills Centre to clearly define the
roles of the two divisions. Gonzaga Hall was named after the first Matron of the
Mercy Hospital, M Gonzaga Leahy MBE.
2006
Introduction of Trainee Intern course.
