School of Medical Sciences Requirements for screening

Plates

The table below is a guideline for plates that fit the Discovery-1 stage. It is highly recommended that you check with us before starting your experiment to ensure that your plates fit the stage.

Brand name Number of wells Catalogue number Supplier
Falcon 6 353046 Becton Dickson
24 353047
96 353072
384 353257
Nunc 96 167008 Biolab

Cells and plating density

A diverse range of cell lines and primary cells can be screened. It is strongly recommended that cells are approximately 70% confluent, not clumped or overlapping and are adhered to the bottom of the well.

Screening facilities

The Discovery-1 screening machine contains a motorised stage and camera arm that enables unattended acquisition of images from tissue culture plates. Data can be saved via the CD-RW & DVD+RW writer. Data can be analysed on offline PCs (Windows XP) containing MetaMorph software, Adobe Photoshop and Pagemaker.

Experimental design

All experiments will need appropriate controls to validate the images acquired. Also, plates need to be safe to handle within PC1 lab facilities.
