Immune responses against cancer can be important in controlling cancer cell growth.
One protein target of the immune system which is found in many cancers, including
melanoma, is NY-ESO-1.
This study is testing a vaccine which is designed to increase the immune response
against the NY-ESO-1 protein, to see if it will improve outcomes for participants
who have malignant melanoma. The trial will also generate further information on
the safety of the vaccination, and explore the immune responses against the NY-ESO-1
protein.
It is a randomised, controlled, multi-centre trial, coordinated by the Ludwig Institute,
an international academic group who are world leaders in cancer vaccine development.
