The overarching objective of Cancer Trials New Zealand
(CTNZ) is to contribute to
the 'New Zealand Cancer Control Strategy' commitment to improve cancer control through
research.
Established in 2003, CTNZ was developed to assist clinical researchers and the
existing Cancer research units by creating an adaptive infrastructure to facilitate
more rapid development of new ideas from investigators across all disciplines.
The primary focus of the group is on encouraging and supporting investigator initiated
phase I and II oncology trials. As the capacity of the trial centre increases, it
will encourage more early phase / translational projects in collaboration with the
New Zealand and international biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. The group
is also exploring linkages with initiatives such as rare tumour registries, pathology
repositories, and national clinical databases.
Establishment of the basic structure of CTNZ was made possible by a three-year foundation
seeding grant from the Auckland Cancer Society.
Mission statement
To improve health and other outcomes for New Zealand by providing a national
resource to facilitate clinical trials research in cancer.
