Research
Previous interests include the effect of body protein loss on surgical patients
and the assessment of the impact of that loss on physiologic function and surgical
risk. The unit currently has three PhD students and one masters student working
in the area of acute pancreatitis. The work is likely to increasingly involve nutrition
as there is very real interest in evaluating the impact of various forms of enteral
nutrition on the maintenance of gut barrier function. This is likely to be an important
adjunct to management of acute pancreatitis.
