Welcome to the Biomedical Imaging
Research Unit
The Biomedical Imaging Research Unit (BIRU) provides research infrastructure and support. The BIRU is located in the
School of Medical Sciences within the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at
the Grafton campus. We offer a range of imaging modalities with individualised training.
BIRU is on the move....!
The light and confocal microscopes have all been moved to their new rooms. None of them is yet operational but the rooms are looking good!
Our offices are being moved this week as well as the computer room and BIRU
library.
There are quite a few issues that still need to be sorted out for the confocal
microscopes (power, plumbing, etc.) and the engineers are working on the systems
this week as well as next week. The electron microscope room is still being
worked on, therefore the microscope has not yet been moved. We hope that it will
be able to move to its new room next week.
The anticipated opening date for the new facility is still Monday 13th February.
The BIRU held its annual end of year research celebration on Wednesday 7
December. The winners of the image competition were announced at the event. The
image shown above is the confocal microscopy and trophy winner for 2011
submitted by Elizabeth Eady from the Department of Ophthalmology.
