School of Medical Sciences Postgraduate research projects

Graduate studies in medical image processing

Opportunities exist for students wishing to pursue masters or PhD programmes in medical image processing at The University of Auckland School of Medicine.

Students will be part of a research group investigating ways in which clinical image analysis can be made faster and more efficient using mathematical modelling and 3D computer visualisation techniques.

Project topics include:

  • fast, interactive estimation of 3D heart wall motion from magnetic resonance images
  • development of a clinical cardiac image analysis software package
  • validation of finite element models of cardiac mechanics and activation
  • development of software tools for the visualisation of 3D structures from volume images.

Students should have an interest in image processing, computer graphics and mathematical modelling. Salary support is available for some projects.
