Department staff provide substantial teaching input into undergraduate medical and
biomedical science programmes and contribute to a growing graduate studies programme.
Staff of the department help organise and teach postgraduate medical education courses
conducted by:
- The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
- The Royal Australasian College of Radiologists
- The Royal Australasian College of Ophthalmologists and
- The Surgical Skills Training Centre, School of Medicine,
The University of Auckland.
There has been a significant increase in postgraduate medical education with the
development of short, applied anatomy courses for specialists in general surgery, plastic
surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, anesthesiology and emergency medicine. These
developments have been made possible by the department's excellent human tissue
resources and by the commitment and enthusiasm of the human anatomy teaching staff.
Postgraduate teaching is a particular strength of the department and first year
radiology registrars make a major contribution to undergraduate medical teaching
as part of their training. There are 30 registrars on the five year course for the
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists. In alternate years
the radiology staff run a national one week intensive course for Radiology registrars
approaching their final examinations. Members of the department are actively involved
in education matters related to the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists and
have key responsibilities within the fields of Gastro-intestinal, Urological, Musculo-skeletal
and Breast Radiology.
Details about the courses administered by the department are listed below. The course coordinator can
