School of Medical Sciences Microvascular network in a rat window chamber tumour

Comparison of tumor and fascial surfaces of a dorsal flap window chamber bearing a R3230Ac mammary carcinoma in the Fischer-344 rat.

A: Appearance of the tumor surface of a window chamber preparation. No arterioles are seen on the upper surface of the tumor, and the tumor vasculature is very typical, showing vascular tortuosity and disorderly branching. The arrow indicates the shadow of a feeding arteriole.

B: Appearance of the fascial surface of the window chamber preparation. Locations of tumor feeding arterioles are indicated by the arrows. The tumor is visible through the fascia as a shadow.
