Student life offers more than just study. Our faculty has a large selection of clubs, societies and events to get
involved in.
Auckland
Auckland is New Zealand's largest city, with a
multi-cultural population of 1.2 million. Situated in the heart of Auckland's
café, shopping and business districts, The University of Auckland offers
students the opportunity to live a unique and cosmopolitan student lifestyle.
Whether you are interested in film and theatre, local design and fashion, clubs,
music, surfing or tramping, Auckland provides an urban student experience on the
doorstep of some of the country's finest beaches and regional parks.
Cafés
Café
85 is the hub of the Grafton Campus, providing a lively atmosphere for study,
eating and socialising for the faculty’s 2,500 students and staff. Several other
cafés and restaurants are also easily accessible on foot, including Subway and
Muffin Break Café. There is also a selection of good quality cafés at the Tamaki
Campus and the City Campus.
Student associations
The faculty has
an active and exciting array of student associations for you to become involved
in. Joining an association is a great way to make friends, develop your
professional skills and become an active member of the faculty’s academic
community. Several associations also hold social events which provide further
opportunities to meet other members of the faculty, which can come in handy for
later research opportunities.

Faculty events
The Faculty of Medical and Health
Sciences has a strong community spirit. Throughout the year, it hosts an
exciting line up of workshops, seminars and conferences by local and
international researchers. In addition to learning about new research findings, these
events provide a great opportunity for networking and discovering new methods
for your own research.
Recreation and sports
The Recreation Centre on the City
Campus has a vast range of services designed to keep you fit and healthy. Join a
fencing or martial arts group, fitness class, or set up personal training and
fitness assessments. Access weights, squash courts, a climbing wall, dance
studio and yoga groups. Get stuck into competitive or social team sports with a
group of friends from the faculty or join a new team – it’s up to you.
Libraries
The Philson Library, based at Grafton Campus, has a range of quality library and
information resources and services specific to the faculty. It is supported by
the Tamaki Library, the world leading Information Commons facilities and the
AMRF Medical Sciences Learning Centre – Whakaaro
Pai.
