Should I enrol in this course if I have not already done BIOSCI 107?
MEDSCI 142 and BIOSCI 107 are designed to complement each other, and most students
do both courses. However if your academic record at school and university is reasonably strong, and especially if you took biology at NCEA level 2 and 3 (6th and 7th form),
then you can
take MEDSCI 142 with a reasonable chance of success.
I have an enrolment issue.
It is expected that all students should be able to achieve a clash-free
timetable. See Timetabling options / SSO class codes.
If you require further assistance:
- In SSO, attempt to enrol into MEDSCI 142 as you do other courses, and apply for
'Concession'.
- If you need help, see
instructions on how to lodge a concession.
- Your concession request may take up to 5 working days to be processed by the
Department. You will receive an e-mail updating you on the status of your
application.
- If your application has been accepted, you will be enrolled by the Faculty in
charge of your degree programme in due course. No further action is required on
your part at this point.
- Concession-waitlisted applications will be reviewed after S1 2012 results have been
released.
Due to timetable clashes I want to vary my lecture stream from day to day, i.e.
attend the 9am lecture on some days of the week and the 4pm lecture on other days.
Is this possible?
We don't object to students who are enrolled in one lecture stream occasionally
migrating to the other, provided the latter stream is not full. Students who migrate
to a stream which is full will take a seat which rightfully belongs to someone else.
Then displaced students are forced to sit in the aisles, and security staff may
stop the lecture because fire regulations related to overcrowding have been breached.
In recent years the MEDSCI 142 lecture stream at 9am has been full to capacity,
and the 4pm stream close to full. Therefore please do not plan to migrate between streams, especially not from the 4pm to the 9am stream. We will take steps to prevent
such migration.
I am repeating MEDSCI 142. I passed the laboratory component the last time
I attempted the course. Do I need to repeat the labs again?
It is a requirement for repeating students to also repeat the laboratory component.
This is because the laboratory content is also examinable in both the mid-semester
test and final exam, in addition to the in-lab multiple choice tests. If you are
offered a place in MEDSCI 142 this year, you will be expected to attend all the
laboratories in their entirety, and re-pass the in-lab multiple choice
tests.
