Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences Postgraduate scholarships
  • Sir John Logan Campbell Medical Trust Awards: these awards are available to staff of the School of Medicine in The University of Auckland and persons connected with medical education including the medical profession within the provincial district of Auckland. Awards are made for the following purposes - to assist with short-term postgraduate study and research abroad, travel and conference grants in NZ and abroad or sponsorship of visits to Auckland of eminent medical personal from overseas.

  • The Anne and David Norman Fellowship in Leukemia and Lymphoma Research: The faculty are looking for applications to support basic and clinical research into improving the outcomes for patients with leukaemia and related cancers. This Fellowship will provide a $25,000 per annum PhD stipend for three years for promising research scientists and medical graduates who are training in haematology or oncology, allowing them to continue their research at The University of Auckland.

  • The Dean's International Doctoral Scholarships (FMHS) were introduced in 2011 and are funded by the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. We aim to attract international students of high calibre to pursue a research doctoral degree in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and will provide up to three scholarships per annum of up to $25,000NZD stipend plus compulsory tuition fees, relocation grant, travel allowance and insurance.
    Applications close 30 April annually.

  • Scholarships are usually awarded on the basis of grade point average (GPA). Full information is available on the Scholarships website.
  • Visit the faculty's Research Office, which outlines grant and research opportunities available through external agencies. For more information on any advertised grants contact: healthresearch@auckland.ac.nz

  • If you are employed, it is advisable to approach your employer about funding for your postgraduate study. Employers may have funding available through a training budget, or they may know of other possible sources of funding. Depending on their circumstances, some students may be eligible for a student loan or allowance. StudyLink, a service of the Ministry of Social Development, has the responsibility of processing Student Loans and Allowances. Further information on student loans and allowances can be obtained by contacting StudyLink.
  • Some programmes may also be funded by the CTA for students employed clinically in particular fields. Also, you can contact your proposed department to enquire about other sources of funding.
