Upcoming changes to ethical review
New operating procedures and application process will come into effect for
Health and Disability Ethics Committees on 1 July 2012. A draft version has been
released, and another one is forthcoming, before the final version comes out.
Updates will be announced, and from 1 July all new ethics applications to the
HDECS will occur electronically, at the new HDEC website.
There has been a consultation process, and FMHS, as well as some individual
researchers, have made submissions to the Ministry of Health on this issue. We
have been advised that we will receive the results of this consultation early in
May. Please direct any feedback or queries to the
Faculty Ethics Advisor, Marinus Ferreira.
