Social workers in healthcare work as integral members of the multi-disciplinary
team. Health social workers aim to meet the bio-psychosocial needs of diverse
New Zealand communities. The vision for health social work is to have a well trained,
confident and competent workforce. Health social workers need to be equipped to
practice independently, and in teams, in a fast changing and complex
environment.
Postgraduate education is essential to provide a level of excellence in the health
social work field of practice. The
School of Population Health and the
School of Counselling, Human Services and Social Work have
collaborated to develop a social work specialisation within the Postgraduate Diploma
in Health Sciences. The Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences in Social Work is
a great professional development qualification or it can provide a pathway to a
Master of Health Sciences or a Master of Social Work.
