Postgraduate study in advanced nursing is aimed at registered nurses seeking to advance their knowledge and skills. The focus for postgraduate nursing study is the enhancement of clinical nursing practice. Accordingly, the courses focus on enhancing clinical nursing skills, practice knowledge and preparing nurses for clinical leadership roles and prescribing together with facilitating understanding of the current and future context of nursing and healthcare.

The Nursing Council of New Zealand has approved the Master of Nursing programme as preparation for nurse practitioner roles.

Some courses are offered online, and many others are available in a Flexible learning format.
