The Master of Medical Science (MMedSc) is available for medical graduates wishing to pursue study towards a masters programmes in a health or medically related field.
Eligibility
In order to be admitted to this programme, students need to have completed the requirements for the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (or an equivalent medical qualification), as well as completed the requirements for the
Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Science or Bachelor of Human Biology (honours) degree or their
equivalent with an average grade of B or higher. Students must also hold current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or as a medical practitioner
in the country of domicile.

Content
Students wishing to complete the MMedSc programme are required to enrol in, and complete, the following
courses.
Research masters
- MEDSCI 796 - Thesis (120 Points); OR
- MEDSCI 797 - Research Portfolio (120 Points); OR
- MEDSCI 793 - Research Portfolio (90 Points) and 30 points from approved courses
listed in the Master of Medical Science Schedule.
Taught masters
- MEDSCI 790 - Dissertation (60 Points)
- and 60 points from the courses listed in the Master of Medical Science Schedule, including an
approved research methods course if such a course has not already been passed.

Important information
Once you start this programme you will need to enrol continuously (each semester)
until the programme is finished. If you need to take a break you must apply for a suspension.
This programme has a total enrolment clause of 160 points. This is the maximum number
of points you can enrol in (including failed or withdrawn courses) towards
this programme.
