Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences Master in Health Management

The Master in Health Management (MHealthMgt) programme is aimed at health professionals and managers who are seeking to extend and develop their capacity to manage health services.

Eligibility

In order to be admitted to this programme, a student needs to have:

  • completed the requirements for an approved degree or diploma
  • fulfilled the requirements of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business in Health Management or Health Informatics, or the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences in Health Informatics, or their equivalents, as approved by Senate or its representative, with an average grade of B or higher
  • at least three years of practical experience in the health sector.

This inter-faculty programme is offered by the School of Population Health in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, and the Graduate School of Enterprise in the Faculty of Business and Economics. Courses offered within this programme are available in flexible and independent formats.

Content

Students wishing to complete the MHealthMgt programme are required to enrol in, and complete, the following courses.

For students who have completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Business in Health Management, or its equivalent:

  • POPLHLTH 702 - Research Methods for Health Services (15 Points) or POPLHLTH 705 - Evaluation Research Methods (15 Points)
  • MANAGEMENT 724 - Strategic Management of Professional Organisations (20 Points)
  • MANAGEMENT 725 - Contemporary Health Care Delivery systems (20 Points)
  • POPLHLTH 718 - Health and Public Policy (15 Points)
  • HLTHINFO 723 - Health Knowledge Management (15 Points)
  • HLTHINFO 728 - Principles of Health Informatics (15 Points)
  • POPLHLTH 729 - Information and Strategic Health Management (15 Points)
  • POPLHLTH 754 - Health Leadership (15 Points)
  • INFOSYS 740 - System Dynamics for Complex Modelling (15 Points)
  • or other approved 700 level courses listed in the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Schedule

For students who have completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences in Health Informatics, or its equivalent:

and 60 points from:

  •  POPLHLTH 702 - Research Methods for Health Services (15 Points) or POPLHLTH 705 - Evaluation Research Methods (15 Points)
  • INFOSYS 734 - Electronic Commerce (15 Points)
  • MANAGEMENT 724 - Strategic Management of Professional Organisations (20 Points)
  • MANAGEMENT 725 - Contemporary Health Care Delivery systems (20 Points)
  • POPLHLTH 718 - Health and Public Policy (15 Points)
  • HLTHINFO 723 - Health Knowledge Management (15 Points)
  • HLTHINFO 728 - Principles of Health Informatics (15 Points)
  • POPLHLTH 729 - Information and Strategic Health Management (15 Points)
  • POPLHLTH 754 - Health Leadership (15 Points)

Important information

Once you start this programme you will need to enrol continuously (each semester) until the programme is finished. If you need to take a break you must apply for a suspension.

This programme has a total enrolment clause of 160 points. This is the maximum number of points you can enrol in (including failed or withdrawn courses) towards this programme.
