Postgraduate diplomas can provide study opportunities in specialist disciplines
and usually involve taught courses, although they may also include a research project or
practicum. In many cases the completion of a postgraduate diploma (or a bachelors
(honours) degree) with a B average is required for entry to a 120 point masters
degree. Most postgraduate diplomas can be awarded with
distinction or merit where a student's overall grade is sufficiently high.
A postgraduate diploma is open to graduates or to those who have been able to demonstrate
extensive practical, professional, or scholarly experience of an appropriate kind.
It consists of a programme of at least the equivalent of one year of full-time study
(although it may be completed in up to four years of part-time study), and comprises
courses at an advanced level.
