A doctorate is an advanced course of independent study and original research and is presented in the form of a thesis. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
and Doctor of Medicine (MD) may be taken within any department of the Faculty of
Medical and Health Sciences. The Doctor of Pharmacy (DPharm) is available in the
School of Pharmacy.

Eligibility
Acceptance into a PhD is based on academic merit, but candidates must have also
demonstrated a proven ability to carry out independent research and to possess a high
level of critical research skill and theoretical understanding. Candidates must
generally have completed a bachelors (honours) or masters degree with first
class or second class (division one) honours. Masters students who have made exceptional
progress may also be given the opportunity to convert to PhD candidature.
Application
All intending doctoral students must also formally apply for their doctoral programme
through Student Services Online, as well as completing the doctoral registration requirements.
