Seminars

Tuesday, 22 May 2012
1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Location: At Lecture Theatre 102-G36, Old Government House, City Campus

Speaker: Professor Stuart McNaughton, Director of the Woolf Fisher Research Centre,
Department:

Most parents know instinctively that being actively involved in their children’s education will give them a good head-start in life. But with many parents facing competing demands at work and at home, finding the time can be a major challenge. Parents may also be reluctant to help their children with school work because they feel they lack the skills that would make a difference to their children’s success in school. So, how can parents help their children succeed in school?

Professor Stuart McNaughton, Director of the Woolf Fisher Research Centre, will discuss what parents can do to help their children succeed in school, including offering evidence-based strategies that require genuine interest and active engagement, rather than endless hours and specialist knowledge.
