We have a strategy of supporting and empowering staff to gain the knowledge and
skills to make best use of technologies in their teaching and learning. A part
of this strategy includes providing online resources to allow staff to quickly
and easily develop professionally.
The
TeachingPLUS website introduces Faculty to some of the technologies available to
enhance teaching and learning at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. The
technologies are presented and organised around specific teaching functions such
as “Presenting and structuring information” and ”Encouraging interaction and
collaboration”.
Each section of the site provides a summary of the various technologies that
might be used to support the teaching function. Each section also presents
practice examples from around the Faculty along with information on where to
find out more about the technologies and where to get further support.

FMHS Teaching and Learning Hub and ePortfolio
The
Faculty of Medical and Health Science's Teaching and Learning Hub consists of a
set of online "modules" to support staff in developing and enhancing their
teaching. The modules are designed around performance areas that are evaluated
during the University promotion process. These performance areas - and
associated performance indicators - have been set out in a performance rubric to
further help staff develop their teaching in line with University expectations.
There is also an ePortfolio component for maintaining teaching records.
Eportfolio records can be used for professional development purposes as well as
applying for promotion, for continuation and for the annual performance review.
The Hub and the ePortfolio have been developed in line with the FMHS Strategic
Plan 2007-2012, which commits the Faculty to supporting teaching and learning
with appropriate facilities, staff and student support and resources aligned
with priorities. The website, designed in Course Builder, offers potential for
reuse by other faculties.
