Ionising radiation safety
Procurement and use of ionising radiation (including equipment
capable of generating x-rays) must be under the control of an National Radiation
Laboratory (NRL) license holder.
Use of ionising radiation must meet the requirements of the Radiation Protection
Act, the Radiation Protection Regulations, the relevant Code of Safe Practice and
the University Radiation Protection Plan. For all licensees and users, information about compliance with Radiation Protection Act,
Radiation Protection Regulations and Codes of Safe Practice can be found in
NRL website.

Radiation protection plan
The
University operates a comprehensive radiation safety plan that covers radiation protection at The University

Training for
safe handling of radionuclides
All users of unsealed sources of
radionuclides (staff and students) are required to attend a three hour course in safe
handling of radionuclides. Enrolments can be made through Staff Development (ext
85070). Please have your ID number handy for enrolling.
