The Dean and Faculty welcome you to the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences,
and best wishes for success in your doctoral degree. You have joined (or
returned to) a Faculty with an outstanding research history.
You are bound to have many questions as time goes on and we have attached
relevant website links to this site. If you have a question that you
can’t find the answer to in the website or if your supervisor doesn’t know the
answer please feel free to email me
pghealth@auckland.ac.nz.
A doctoral degree is of course more than just 3-4 years of study. We recommend
that you join the FMHS Postgraduate Students Association and make the most of
their events and collegial support. During those inevitable moments when you
need support, your peers 1-2 years ahead will all have experienced similar
issues.
If you are a new international student we
suggest you make contact with
the International Development Manager’s Office (Ms Karen Dorrian). They will be
able to assist you as you adapt to Auckland and the New Zealand culture.
The Faculty has a formal welcome hosted by the Dean for new doctoral students
each year. The next will occur in early 2012. I
look forward to meeting you all either then, or earlier at some of the other
FMHS or University events.
Once again best wishes for success in your degree.
Professor Ross McCormick
Associate Dean (Postgraduate Studies)
